چکیده
With changes in the medical and surgical management of patients over the past three decades, fungi have emerged as a major cause of human disease. Of the disseminated mycoses, candidiasis remains the most prevalent, with Candida albicans causing more invasive infections than any other fungus (Elizabeth, 2009). Candidiasis or thrush is a fungal infection (mycosis) of any of the Candida species, of which C. albicans is the most common, also referred to as yeast infection. Candidiasis is also technically known as candidosis, moniliasis and oidiomycosis (William et al., 2006). Candida spp. are the most common cause of fungal infections leading to a range of lifethreatening invasive to non-life-threatening mucocutaneous diseases (Achkar and Fries, 2010). Candida infections can present in myriad ways. This dimorphic yeast is a commensal that colonizes skin, the gastrointestinal and the reproductive tracts. Consequently, they are also from the setting of candidiasis, albeit at a lower frequency. The pathogenesis and prognosis of candidial infections are affected by the host immune International Journal of Current Microbiology and Applied Sciences ISSN: 2319-7706 Volume 5 Number 4 (2016) pp. 957-961 Journal homepage: http://www.ijcmas.com

Epidemiology and antifungal susceptibility of Candida species in a tertiary care hospital, Kolkata, India
Background and Purpose: The incidence of fungal infection as well as candidemia has increased significantly, contributing to morbidity and mortality in the developed countries. The alarming increase in infections with multidrug resistant bacteria is due to overuse of a broad spectrum antimicrobials, which leads to over growth of Candida spp.; thus, enhancing its opportunity to cause the disease...

متن کاملMolecular identification and antifungal susceptibility of Candida albicans isolated from Vulvovaginitis Candidiasis
Vulvovaginal candidiasis is caused by the increasing number of Candida species as normal flora in the vagina. To assess the transmission rout as well as to determine the suitable antifungal drugs for treatment, the exact identification of Candida species is crucial. Therefore, earlier detection of infection allows quick initiation of antifungal therapy with a greater probability for improved su...
متن کاملCandida Species Isolated from Various Clinical Samples and Their Susceptibility Patterns to Antifungals
Candida is an asexual, diploid, dimorphic fungus that is present on human body and his environment. Nowadays the number of patients, who are immunocompromised, aged, receiving prolonged antibacterial and aggressive cancer chemotherapy or undergoing invasive surgical procedures and organ transplantation, is on increase, and therefore candidiasis emerged itself as an alarming opportunistic dise...
متن کاملThe Evaluation of the virulence factors of clinical Candida isolates and the anti-biofilm activity of Elettaria cardamomum against multi-drug resistant Candida albicans
Background and Purpose: Today, treatment of life-threatening fungal infections, caused by Candida species, has become a major problem. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the antifungal susceptibility patterns of different clinical Candida isolates, determine the virulence factors in multi-drug resistant (MDR) Candida species, and assess the anti-biofilm activity of Elettaria cardamomum ...
